Today's world is not the same world I grew up in as a kid. It has changed and I wish I could say for the better but I don't believe so.

When I was a kid, things were simple, not complicated. Today's kids have it so much harder. Can I get an amen?
​
When I was a kid, my mom left the church with me in tow because my biological father had an affair with a woman from our church, who was also his secretary at his real estate office. Oops! Did I just say that? Yes, I just shared something deep and dark about myself and my past.
My biological father's actions changed my world and my view of the church and religion. But guess what? God uses everything for our good. He also cares about us. The result of that sin gave me the best new dad ever and we have been together for over 40 years. What was meant to harm my mom and I, blessed us tremendously. It also grew me in ways that were not possible should that event never happened in my life.

Things happen for a reason. Good and bad. It's how we respond to them, choosing to see the good that can come from bad events, that results in growth.
​
Spiritual formation is about growth, growing in Jesus. It is a process and occurs when we decide to walk with Jesus. it's not easy. Sometimes it's not fun. But the rewards are out of this world.
​
If you follow my blog posts, there will be more sharing so just be prepared. I am honest to a fault and have nothing to hide. What good is hiding anyway?

Hiding gets you nowhere and only leads to being lonely, sad, and confused. Hiding provides a breeding ground for satan, bringing only destruction to one's soul.
​
Being honest with yourself lays the foundation for growth. Being honest and growing spiritually through life's events and Jesus, allows you to help yourself and others.
​
My return to Jesus was not an easy one. The church made it worse but that is not how it should be. We were made to connect with God. Each one of us has a unique way in which we do that.
​
Spirituality is not a one-size-fits-all. It is not a one-way or the highway deal. It is personal. Each one of us will walk our own path, growing spiritually, with Jesus if we so desire.
​
Growing in one's spirituality is a choice. It can be fun, exciting, and revealing but it can also be hard, scary, and full of heartache. That last sentence isn't meant to scare you, it's just reality. That is what this blog is about, reality. The realities of spiritual formation. I hope you stick along for the ride, finding yourself along the way.

Spiritual formation is not a word you hear every day, yet, for believers, it is one of the most important things they will experience in their spiritual lives.

This could be because many believers do not have a clue about what spiritual formation is and how to go about it. I was never taught about spiritual formation in the church. I learned about it in an indirect way during my seminary years. I also learned the hard way about growing spiritually. Then again, I'm stubborn and hard-headed.
​
Spiritual formation is a process where the believer begins to transform and take on the characteristics of Jesus. It takes time and effort. Growing spiritually requires a commitment from the believer.
​
Many new believers or even long-termers may not understand or know how to grow spiritually. A believer may have stalled in their growth and became comfortable where they are at in their relationship with Jesus.
​
There are many reasons why someone might not grow in their spiritually. At OJM, we understand what it means to grow spiritually and wish to help others who may be seeking, lost, or wanting more in their relationship with Jesus.
